Last year, we threw a massive party for Axl’s 1st birthday! As much fun as it was, it took us a whole village, many weeks of planning and loads of preparation.
This year, with limited time on our hands, we decided to keep it simple and celebrate his birthday in school and with our families.
Since lil X started school 2months ago, we thought it’ll be fun to have his tiny friends celebrate with him!
So we discussed with his teacher and fixed the best time for it – their snack time!
# SET THE THEME
1st thing to do is to set the theme of the party by choosing your kiddo’s favorite character. We toyed around with an Animal (again?!), Nemo (Axl loves the fish!) or Barney theme. But finally settled on a Mickey & Friends theme after that invoked the biggest reaction from him!
With this theme set, it was easy for us to order our cake. And we were blessed with our talented friend from @Creatizcakes helping us with this!
# KEEP IT SIMPLE
You know those personalized beautiful handmade giftbags with beautiful handwritten notes… yup, we totally skipped those. As well as elaborate (or any kind of) backdrop decorations etc.. 🙈
When I got carried away with ideas and the pressure build up, I had to keep reminding myself with this important point #KEEPITSIMPLE!
We skipped this frills by buying some Mickey themed Paper Plates, Cups, Napkins and even the Goodie Bag! Bought the goodies from the supermarket and stuffed them into the bags… Tadah! Used all these items to nicely decorate our cake table!
With the cake and your kid decked out in the Mickey theme attire, there you have it! A school birthday party yo!!
Told you it was simple! hehe..
Goodie bags for each of his classmate contained:
– Mini Gummies Pack (Axl’s fave!!)
– A packet of Milo or Ribena
# COMBINE THE FAMILY
If you have easy going super nice families members like Ken & I have, consider having a combined celebration instead of two separate ones! Sure, it may be a little awkward initially, but they’ll get more comfortable with one another after a couple of these sessions! Plus, it’s a nice opportunity for both families to get together, build closer relationships and bond over their common love for your kiddo.
#KID FRIENDY RESTAURANT
In choosing the location, it was a tricky balance between the adults enjoying their food and making it a fun time for your kid and other kids too!
Thankfully for us, Axl’s current favorite activity was obvious… the bouncy castle! So it helped narrow down our list for a kid friendly restaurant. And we settled easily on Cafe Melba knowing they had yummy food and a nice ambience for us adults to enjoy!
(P/s: They stopped taking reservations at their newly opened Mediapolis branch. So we had to reach 30mins in advance to ensure we got a huge table.)
We recycled the Mickey theme with the same simple setup!
I know I ain’t no supermom, but it was really important to us that we all had fun and a chill time in the midst of the awesome company too! Most importantly, we know that our boy enjoyed himself loads and that was what mattered most! We love you, sweetheart!!
