Let me introduce you to the new rage in (or should i say ‘out of’) town…. Say hello to GLAMPING! Camping while enjoying all the glamorous first world ‘necessities’ like a 4 post bed, air-conditioning, full resort wifi, TV, heated shower, etc.

With our Japanese counterparts heading back in around one week, we wanted to go on a short trip nearby for some quality family time. So when we heard about this fun concept of glamping at The Canopi in Bintan, we pounced on it and proceeded to make the bookings pronto!

We took a mid morning ferry from Tanah Merah Ferry Terminal and arrived 1.5 hours earlier. With a bunch of kiddos in tow, the unexpected should always be expected! So it’s always a good idea to factor in ample buffer time.

THE YAPPIES - THE FULL YAP CLAN! THE YAPPIES – THE FULL YAP CLAN!

The sea was really choppy and just when I was about to get seasick, the ride slowed down and I realised we were reaching. Phew! As for Axl, he slept half way through until we disembarked so it was good! Double phew!!

One car ride, one ferry ride and one shuttle van ride later, we finally reached our promised land…. I must say that even though we had researched and seen some online pictures of the place, we were completely blown away by what greeted us upon arrival!

After taking the view in and takings a million pictures while they checked in and settled our rooms, we hurriedly finished up our welcome drinks so we could proceed to our tents.

With fourteen of us in total, we took 3 tents where Ken, Axl & I shared one with Dad & Mom. Each room was given an $80(estimately after conversion. Current promotion I think) credit to spend on food, activities or the rooms in the form of a bright green wristband. You also charge all your expenses to the band, so you can be cash/credit card free for the trip within the resort. I love this feature as its super fuss free…And don’t have to worry about carrying a wallet or shortage of currency, etc.

THE GLAM TENT

I feel that our tents (no. 9 – 11) were one of the best Lagoon Tents as they’re right in front of the sandy area where the kids could play with sand or head straight into the waters.

They also have Jacuzzi Tents that are just slightly further in. But we figured with the pool right at our doorstep, the Lagoon Tents were good enough.

After gushing over our rooms, we headed to lunch at their only bar and cafe at their resort… While the kids had their pastas and pizzas, the adults indulged in their local delights. I had and loved their Mee Goreng! Their Nasi Goreng was yummy too…

Ending this post with these pictures of us chilling in the waters (P/S: How gorgeous are the skies?!)… Will continue Part 2 in the next blog post where I’ll be sharing all the activities and highlights of our trip! Stay tuned… 🙂
