The last 2 times Axl had a professional haircut, it was such traumatic experiences! Both times, he screamed his head off, almost vomited from the hysterics and left trembling in sheer terror. So poor thing la….
1st haircut 1week before his 1st birthday. You don’t wanna see the mayhem in between!
Subsequently, I decided to play hairdresser, avoided the loud shaver and maintained his cut a little here and there, by snipping it myself when he’s distracted or playing at his favourite waterplay table etc..
But it came to a point where it was growing out quite unmanageably and kinda beyond me. I’ve often been asked if I was keeping his hair long and how long I intended for it to be? Or are we emulating a new Korean hair trend etc?
Well… truth to be told, lil X wasn’t the only one affected by the experiences, mummy was also scarred by the hair cut traumas. Hahaha..
I would tell myself repeatedly nevermind, we send him for the cut next month… But with Mei Mei coming soon, I knew I better quickly get my act together and settle this asap.
So I psyched myself up and plotted for the big day. Prepping him in advance beforehand and arming ourselves with his favourite M&Ms and even the Ipad! 😬
[BEFORE] Mummy was the one who was reluctant to say bye to his long hair!
Our choice of hair salon was recommended by his Da-Yi – EC House at Westgate! They have kiddy rides in the salon…
[BEFORE] A ride before to get him comfortable in the salon…
[DURING] The difficult part…
But when cutting, we sat him on my lap as we were afraid he might struggle and fall off the kiddy ride. The crying came, but I did notice a big improvement where it was less hysterical and there were moments where he *tried* to listen to our reasoning/distractions.
Kudos to the hairdresser who went on doing her job quickly and was not an ounce affected by the drama! This worked great for us, as I figured he would cry with or without her stopping, pacifying him etc. Her job was to simply finish cutting and get us outta that place pronto… and that was exactly what she did, focusing on the task at hand!
She was really nice and offer him a free ride at the end of cut though!!! (which he rejected haha)
So proud of this lil boy as he recovered very fast after that and I’m much more hopeful the next time he just might be able to get through it without crying!

[AFTER] A well deserved train ride to end the day with a sweet memory!
P/s: Those of you who asked about his hairstyle – I simply told the hairdresser to cut the back and sides super short and leave the centre and front abit longer. 😂
