From the time Lil X was a baby, he has always loved the water. Bath times had him all excited as he splashed around in the bathtub fearlessly. I also remember regularly bringing him to the pool once he hit 6months old!

However, these recent months since we shifted over to the west of Singapore, bringing him for a swim is no longer as convenient. By and by, we noticed his interest and excitement for swimming had waned. Also for us, beyond having a good time with him at the pool or recreational swimming, we also believe that equipping him with this life skill is an important one.

So we started looking around and went for some trial classes in search of a good swim school for him. I’m happy to share that after several months now, Lil X has been attending Little Splashes Swim School happily!

A private indoor pool using Mineral based water, it’s gentler and safer for children than the usual chlorinated pools. Thus, even babies from 3months onwards can start their water-baby journey here!

Being an indoor pool also means that rain or shine, lessons can go on as per normal. This is important as I believe that consistency is key in learning anything! It really helps with Axl having a routine. Plus, now that he is enjoying himself at lessons, I don’t have to deal with disappointments or lengthy explanations of his lessons getting cancelled coz of the weather.

Another crucial factor in choosing Little Splashes Swim School was also because of their team of experienced coaches. Axl was at a stage where he clams up at the sight of strangers and would cling on to us, cautiously staying in our arms.

With their ‘Children Swimming Programme’ being an independent Learn-to-Swim class (no parent/guardian allowed), we armed ourselves with all sorts of reasoning & bribes to offer him if he resisted.

When we 1st arrived for the trial class and observed Coach Vanessa teaching her group of students, we explained to Axl that she would be teaching and holding him later in the pool. To our surprise, he nodded in approval after she interacted with him awhile, winning him over quite immediately. No fuss, no tantrums… In fact, he kept asking if it was his turn yet! So relieved and happy to see signs of my water-baby back again. The rest you can say, is history! 🤣

Swimming session for this ‘Children Swimming Programme’ programme is 30 minutes for each lesson, with segments of aquatic activities, self-rescue techniques, swim stroke practice and swim laps. Their focus is to teach water familiarization, water safety and water confidence.

The classes are conducted in small ratio (1:5), which allows for better supervision and interaction among their peers. I observed that it was a group class but yet tailored to each child’s individual pace.

If you’re considering of enrolling your child, I suggest joining a Swimming Trial class first, where they will be assessed by the qualified in-house coaches and thereafter grouped according to a suitable class for the rest of the term.
